Our goals

• WHY WE FORMED A GROUP The Granger Group was formed to support land use planning in our area that is both sensible and fair for everyone.



• SIGNS OF THE TIMES Signs like this appear at most entrances to the Town of Taghkanic. But what do these signs really mean for each of us as local residents? The Granger Group is an association of Taghkanic voters, residents and taxpayers who recently got together because we think these signs should be taken at face value.
  
  
• RURAL, AGRICULTURAL CHARACTER For the moment, Taghkanic still is a rural, agricultural town, with plentiful water and wildlife, lush habitats, and mostly unspoiled vistas. We still have the opportunity to decide the destiny of our own community, rather than waking up one day and wondering, "What happened to the town we once knew?"



• FAIR AND REASONABLE ZONING ENFORCEMENT We believe and expect that the Town's zoning code is in effect -- and that when the Taghkanic code has to be enforced, it should always be done in a fair and reasonable manner.



• PROPERTY RIGHTS, PROPERTY RESPONSIBILITIES We believe that everyone has a right to the quiet enjoyment of their own home -- and that property rights also come with some property responsibilities, such as respecting our neighbors, habitats, customs and laws.



• SOUND DECISION-MAKING When it comes to protecting the heritage and character of the town, we believe decisions should be made not based on how much "pull" or money you have, but based on the facts and the merits. When the rules apply equally to everyone, everyone benefits from a safer and friendlier community.
